Get to know the Christmas story through the art of the nativity scene by Ploner Gerhard.
The Annunciation
A young girl named Mary lived in the city of Nazareth.
She was engaged to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. God sent the angel Gabriel to her. The angel came to Mary and said, “Greetings, Mary, the Lord is with you. You will give birth to a son, whom you shall call Jesus.” Mary replied, "I belong to the Lord; be it done to me according to thy word."
No room at the inn
All went to enrol themselves, everyone to his own town.
So Joseph of Galilee also set off from the city of Nazareth to the town of David, known as Bethlehem, with Mary, his trusted wife, who was pregnant.
"There was no room for them at the inn."
The birth of Jesus
Mary gave birth to her first son, wrapped him in swaddling clothes and put him in a manger.
The Angels’ Gloria
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth, peace and goodwill toward men.
Annunciation to the Shepherds
Then the angel of the Lord came to the shepherds and said, “Do not be afraid, today the Saviour is born unto you, the Lord. You will find a child wrapped in swaddling clothes in a manger."
The Three Wise Men
The great Hallelujah
Praise ye the Lord!
Praise God in His sanctuary.
Praise Him in the firmament of His power!
Praise Him for His mighty acts;
Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet,
Praise Him with the psaltery and harp.
Praise Him with the timbrel and dance:
Praise Him with stringed instruments and organs.
Praise Him upon the loud cymbals:
Praise Him upon the high-sounding cymbals.
Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord
Praise ye the Lord!
The Good Shepherd
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies. Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
King Herod
King Herod gave the order for all children under the age of two to be killed in Bethlehem and the surrounding area, because he was fearful of the new "King of the Jews", as Jesus was known.
The Flight into Egypt
Then Joseph awoke in the middle of the night, took Mary and the child and they left Bethlehem for Egypt on a donkey.
Bethlehem
The Holy Scriptures say, "From Bethlehem the king will come, whom God has sent to save man."
